Fight Fatigue, Aches, and Pains While Writing

Updated: Jan 10, 2023

Sitting at a desk writing for long periods of time can lead to muscle stiffness and discomfort, but fortunately, there are a few exercises you can do right from your chair to help alleviate these issues.

Here are five easy exercises you can do while sitting at your desk to stay limber:

  1. Shoulder rolls. To do this exercise, sit up straight in your chair and lift your shoulders towards your ears. Roll your shoulders backwards, then downwards, and then forwards, completing the circle. Repeat this motion for a few reps, then reverse the direction.

  2. Neck stretches. To stretch your neck muscles, sit up straight and bring your right ear towards your right shoulder, using your hand to gently guide it. Hold the stretch for a few seconds, then repeat on the left side. You can also do this exercise by looking over your right shoulder, then your left.

  3. Arm stretches. To stretch your arms and shoulders, sit up straight and extend your right arm out to the side at shoulder height. Use your left hand to gently pull your right elbow towards your left side, feeling the stretch in your right bicep and shoulder. Repeat on the left side.

  4. Leg lifts. To stretch your legs and lower back, sit up straight and lift one leg off the ground, keeping it straight. Hold for a few seconds, then switch sides. You can also try crossing your ankle over your opposite knee and leaning forward to stretch your inner thighs.

  5. Desk push-ups. For a little upper-body workout, try doing some desk push-ups. Place your hands on the edge of your desk, shoulder-width apart, and walk your feet back until you are in a plank position. Bend your elbows and lower your body towards the desk, then push back up. Repeat for a few reps.

These exercises can be done in just a few minutes, and are a great way to alleviate muscle stiffness and discomfort while writing your masterpiece at your desk.

Pro-tip: be sure to listen to your body, and only do what feels comfortable for you!

Stay limber, my friends!

See you on the other side!

Don't let aches, pains, or fatigue get in the way of your writing.
